Getting Our Hands Dirty for a Good Cause

Recently, nearly 120 MasterCard employees willingly got their hands dirty for a good cause. The cause was our new partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

We were really happy to participate in a community build with them that saw our people completing numerous tasks in the name of good. This included helping to build a house, installing planters, painting a mural and sprucing up a Yonkers neighborhood.

There were certainly good vibes throughout the day as we chopped, hammered, painted and got our DIY on.

Here’s what some of our people had to say:

“I wanted to help out because I’ve worked with Habitat before and I know they do great work in many neighborhoods. As we were working throughout the day, people from the area would stop by and be amazed at what was going on. Some even made comments on how nice it looked, some just watched us work – some even said thank you. It’s nice to see your efforts, no matter how large or small, can make a difference” – Jessica Lierzer, International Markets, Sales Development.

“It was a very positive experience. It’s so important to give back to our communities – both as individuals and as a company.” – Richard Gunther, Senior Business Leader, Corporate Security (who’s quite the carpenter and all-around handyman).

Our relationship with Habitat for Humanity started in 2010 with a Home Depot and MasterCard partnering to support Energy Efficiency last October. The bottom line; Habitat is a great organization that does much-needed work in local communities.  Our partnership with Habitat doesn’t end with rebuilding a community — we plan to continue the relationship by helping home owners and the community maintain their homes through our consumer education programs that include easy-to-understand debt management tools.

We’re looking forward to doing more community builds with Habitat in Delaware, St. Louis and Miami but in the meantime, hope you enjoyed the pictures of what we achieved.
