It has been a busy couple of months for MasterCard in terms of mobile payments. Today we got a bit busier and announced that MasterCard joined with Isis, Visa, Discover and American Express into a relationship to provide network acceptance services for Isis-enabled phones and payment terminals. What does this mean? Consumers and merchants in the U.S. will not be limited to one payment network when evaluating their mobile payment options – they now will have more choices in the future.
Chris Morse from the communications team sat down with Ed McLaughlin, Chief Emerging Payments Officer at MasterCard to talk about the announcement with Isis, what it means for consumers and merchants, how it fits into MasterCard’s mobile strategy and why this will help drive mobile payments adoption – via an open mobile payments ecosystem.
