Payments are the buzz of the mobile industry right now – and today we’re ensuring the excitement continues.
Earlier this year, Research In Motion (RIM) announced two Blackberry handsets that would support Near FieldCommunications (NFC) – the Blackberry Bold 9900 and Blackberry Curve 9360. Yesterday we announced that these two devices are the first SIM-based smartphones to be MasterCard Mobile PayPass certified – ensuring they meet the functionality, interoperability and security requirements of MasterCard. MasterCard has long been a leader in the testing and certification of products – for the benefit of customers, issuers, merchants and acquirers. As such, these popular BlackBerry smartphones now offer consumers another simple, easy, safe and convenient way to pay.
Telcos such as France Telecom – Orange and Etisalat are moving quickly to roll out these devices to their subscribers with enabled Mobile Payment services. These commercial launches and device certifications are important milestones and a testament to the industry’s support of NFC. What are your thoughts about NFC payments and utilizing your phone as method of payment? We’d love to hear from you.
