A World Beyond Coffee: An Internship at MasterCard

Last summer, I told you about the ‘social media interview’ at MasterCard Canada while interning at the MasterCard headquarters in New York.  Now, I’m back for round two of my internship and here to let all of my fellow college students know that MasterCard is looking for its 2012 interns!

Who better to tell you about our internship program than me, an intern?  But don’t worry – at MasterCard, intern is just a title.  We work on meaningful projects and are active, contributing members of our teams.  I work in the Worldwide Communications team, helping to manage our newsroom and bring you The Heart of Commerce every day, hopefully demonstrating to everyone how MasterCard makes our lives easier.

If you’re not sure how MasterCard impacts our everyday lives – imagine ONLY using cash.  With our generation, we barely even think about the value of plastic cards and immediately go for the newest payment app on our smartphones.  With all the new technologies in payments (did you see us at Consumer Electronic Show?!), there couldn’t be a more exciting time to work for MasterCard.

While I’m back with only a few other interns during winter break, our summer program in New York will bring in over 40 interns, not to mention the other offices and regions that are hiring.  Out of the 46 interns from last summer, over half of us were offered full-time jobs or second internships!  Plus – it wasn’t just all work.  Outside the office, we enjoyed Priceless Cities with the Blue Man Group, supported Stand Up 2 Cancer at a Yankee game, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and even made a video to showcase our “Priceless Summer” – take a look!

My experience at MasterCard, despite the cliché, has been priceless: opportunities, connections and real work experience – what else could you want as a college student embarking on your professional career?  So whether you’re in New York, St. Louis, Singapore, Dublin or somewhere else in the world, MasterCard is looking for the best of Generation Y.  Check out some intern testimonials from the Class of 2011 in New York, get to know more about MasterCard and apply by February 20!
