“Ready-ing” Mobile Devices for NFC Since 2012Brian Gendron | February 26, 2013
At MasterCard, we are working closely with handset and chip manufacturers to help accelerate NFC payments in the marketplace. In May of 2012, we launched the MasterCard PayPass Ready program to certify phones and embed our payment applets in the secure element of consumers’ favorite devices.
Since that time, we’ve certified more than 140 devices, including 34 from Samsung. Most importantly, our eye is on the future and driving payment solutions that address the needs of consumers – helping them shop and pay in a way that best fits their needs, across devices, as consumers lead a more digital and connected lifestyle. That’s the basis behind the MasterPass, an announcement we made on Monday at Mobile World Congress. MasterPass brings together all of the ways we pay for things, from traditional plastic cards to digital wallets, and gives consumers the ability to make a payment from wherever they are – at home, at the register, in the aisle or on the go – and with one simple experience We’re leading this transition to digital, and turning the converged future into a reality.
