Equal Pay Day Unpacked

Today’s Equal Pay Day milestone focuses attention on the importance of equal treatment of all people and all employees. This event highlights how businesses are thinking about, proposing and activating solutions to address challenges around equality in the workplace.

At Mastercard, we’re building, growing and supporting a culture of inclusion. It’s a culture that inspires each of us to bring our diverse thinking, experiences and perspectives to everyday activities.

We believe – and have demonstrated – that our business is enhanced by the insights of our diverse global workforce. This environment respects all employees’ individual strengths, views and experiences. It is a foundation which leads to greater engagement, innovation and productivity.

A core element of creating strong and engaged teams is to examine pay practices to ensure gender equality. At our company, both in the U.S. and globally, men and women in the same level earn equal pay for equal performance.

Of course, equal pay is just one component in our efforts to create a high-performing, diverse organization. We support the White House Equal Pay Pledge and our Board Chairman and other Mastercard management are active members of the 30% Club. We are engaged in the UN’s HeforShe initiative and conduct our own signature global STEM program, Girls4Tech. Our Project Inspire – in coordination with UN Women – helps to support young entrepreneurs looking to create a better world for women and girls in Asia and the Pacific.

We’ll continue to work to address this need, creating stronger networks and connections in the process. All of these activities combine will continue to play an important role in ensuring our organization has the diversity it needs to execute on our business strategy.
