LinkedIn Influencer Ajay Banga: Financial Inclusion is our Moonshot Moment

In his debut post as a LinkedIn influencer, joining 300+ thought leaders, including Bill Gates and Richard Branson, MasterCard CEO, Ajay Banga, characterized the goal of achieving full financial inclusion by 2020 as our “generation’s equivalent of putting a man on the moon.”

“Just as space flight and research transformed science, telecommunications, transportation, and more, I believe financial inclusion has the potential to be just as transformative”, writes Ajay.  “Can it be done?  I don’t know. But if you don’t set a goal, you won’t start moving towards it.”

To move closer to full financial inclusion, Ajay suggests focusing on these top four areas:

•  Reducing cash dependency around the globe;

•  Leveraging the scale and reach of public-private partnerships;

•  Making economic growth more inclusive; and

•  Building a global economy that’s closer to being truly global.

Concluding his debut post as a LinkedIn Influencer, Ajay calls on all stakeholders to seize the moment: “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a planet with much-more empowered populations and much-more inclusive growth, where we’re lifting more people up, instead of leaving them behind.”
