General Counsel and Chief Franchise Officer
Tim Murphy is general counsel and chief franchise officer for MasterCard. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing legal affairs, public policy, corporate secretary and compliance. Mr. Murphy also has responsibility for Franchise Development and Integrity, Information Security and Privacy and Global Diversity. He is a member of the company’s Executive Committee.
Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Murphy was chief product officer, where he was responsible for the management, development and commercialization of payments solutions creating sustainable competitive advantage for MasterCard and its customers.
Mr. Murphy has also served as president, U.S. Region, where he was responsible for building MasterCard’s business in the United States. Mr. Murphy also served as group executive of Customer Business Planning and Analysis where he was responsible for business planning, financial analysis and reporting, global pricing strategy, sales development, and technology investment management. Previously, Mr. Murphy was senior vice president and associate general counsel for MasterCard.
Before joining MasterCard in 2000, Mr. Murphy was an associate in the New York and London offices of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, an international law firm.
Mr. Murphy graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and magna cum laude from Amherst College. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Amherst.
