Continued Relationship Places Emphasis on Enhanced Cardholder Experience and Ongoing Support of Arnold Palmer Hospital and Winnie Palmer Hospital
ORLANDO, Fla. & PURCHASE, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mar. 21, 2012– MasterCard, the PGA TOUR and Arnold Palmer today announced that MasterCard will continue as presenting sponsor of the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard for four additional years, through the 2016 tournament. Proceeds from the tournament continue to benefit Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies.
The relationship between MasterCard, a sponsor of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour since 1995, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard began in 2004.
“Our relationship with the Arnold Palmer Invitational delivers so much to our organization, our cardholders and the local Orlando community,” said Chris McWilton, President, U.S. Markets, MasterCard. “While golf is a true passion for many of our cardholders, we’ve experienced first-hand the impact this tournament has on families across the southeast. We look forward to the continued success of this tournament, one of the crown jewels of the TOUR’s Florida Swing.”
“Throughout the first nine years of our partnership, MasterCard has helped raise more than $1.8 million that have directly impacted Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children,” said Arnold Palmer, legendary golf champion and ambassador. “I am looking forward to continuing our partnership over the next four years to deliver a world-class event for our players and fans, while continuing to support the hospitals.”
“We’re delighted that MasterCard is continuing its commitment as presenting sponsor of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, an association that has greatly benefited the tournament and its support of the Arnold and Winnie Palmer hospitals,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “MasterCard has been an active sponsor on the PGA TOUR for a number of years, developing a variety of creative campaigns and promotions, and we look forward to continuing this outstanding relationship.”
Added Incentive for 2012
For the 2012 Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard, MasterCard has issued a challenge to its professional golf ambassadors. Should any of the ambassadors entered in this week’s event win the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard, MasterCard will make an additional $200,000 donation to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in their name.
Enhanced Cardholder Experience
With the sponsorship renewal, MasterCard will continue to deliver increased value at the tournament, including a concierge to help MasterCard cardholders maximize their visit to Bay Hill, access to the MasterCard Club, exclusive viewing platforms on the 6th hole and 18th fairway and discounts on concessions and Tournament merchandise.
In 2013, these benefits will expand to include the ability to purchase tickets to a MasterCard cardholder hospitality tent, increased discounts on tournament tickets, and “priceless” golf lessons with a PGA teaching professional on Saturday and Sunday of the tournament.
“Every day, we look for ways to create stronger connections with consumers, while providing them with priceless experiences and memories,” said McWilton. “Over the past two years, we’ve expanded the ability to be involved with the tournament to social media activities. As we continue our sponsorship, we’ll have an ability to continue to deliver on this promise and create greater affection for the tournament and for our products.”
