Camila, Cintia and Malena are the creators and owners of Dorothy Complementos, a small fashion design enterprise in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here, the designers share their Cashless Pioneers story with MasterCard and the role that card payments played in establishing their business.
We are Camila Battisacchi, Cintia Rebour and Malena Revuelta, and we are fashion designers from Buenos Aires, Argentina. In October of 2011 we decided to get together and start Dorothy Complementos, a small business dedicated to creating handbags, purses and accessories for women.
We didn’t have a lot of money to start with, so we used left over fabric from our universities or from our friends and families in order to start testing out some purse designs. We wanted to give those left over fabrics a new use by cutting them into animal shapes that would be incorporated into our products and make them stand out.
In May 2012 we were invited to participate in Puro Diseño, a huge fashion fair in Buenos Aires, and thanks to our families’ financial support, we were able to join this popular event. At that time, we realized that in order to maximize our participation in the fair and avoid losing sales, accepting card payments was a must. This is true especially for events like fashion fairs, as about 50% of customers prefer to pay by card, so we got a POS. This turned out to be a great idea, as it allowed our customers to shop as much as they wanted without worrying if they carried enough cash.
Our main clients are fierce and happy women. They dare to use bold colors and enjoy design. We use social networks to get closer to them, like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Every day, we share pictures and information that helps portray the spirit of our brand. Our customers can buy from us online or at our showroom in Buenos Aires. Whether online or in the store, customers enjoy the ease and security of paying electronically.
