Earlier this week, the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2015 was launched, providing insights into one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors in the world today – the Muslim travel market. In-depth data covering 100 destinations is analyzed and developed into an overall index that provides travelers, governments, travel services and investors comprehensive benchmarks to track the health and growth of the Muslim travel segment.
Southeast Asian destinations fare well – with Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand ranking amongst the top destinations favored, against a number of criteria, and Malaysia and Singapore taking the top spot for the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) and non-OIC destinations respectively.
