Senior Vice President, Operations & Technology, Asia Pacific
Gautam acts as Regional CTO for Mastercard and is responsible for leading the technology and service operations in Asia Pacific. As a member of Mastercard’s Asia Pacific Leadership Team, he is spearheading Mastercard’s technology investments in China, India, Indonesia, and the real-time payments infrastructure hub for the region. He also works across functional stakeholders to drive the innovation and delivery of regionally-relevant but globally scalable technology solutions across the Mastercard product and services portfolio.
Prior to this role, Gautam was Group Head of Domestic & Real-time Payments responsible for Mastercard's partnerships with domestic schemes to provide real-time payments technologies in Asia Pacific. As a thought leader to domestic schemes and regulators, he built a strong pipeline for Mastercard in the region and led the commercial negotiations with BancNet in the Philippines to provide the technology for their real-time payments’ infrastructure – the largest and fastest executed deal in Vocalink history.
Gautam joined Mastercard in late 2014 as Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Development. He was the architect of the strategy that led to Mastercard's $1Bn+ acquisition of Vocalink, the leading provider of real-time payments technology globally. In addition, he formulated Mastercard's country strategy that led to Mastercard committing $500Mn+ in investments for India and set the tone for Mastercard’s go-forward relationship with regional domestic schemes.
Prior to Mastercard, Gautam was an Engagement Manager in the Corporate Finance & Strategy practice of McKinsey & Company, New York, where he worked in various industries including private equity, banking, healthcare, and TMT. He started his career at Deem, a Silicon Valley start-up, where he spent 8+ years in product development and was instrumental in securing $100M in Round-D financing from Chase Capital and American Express.
Gautam holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with honors. Gautam also holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in computer science from Cornell University and Manipal Institute of Technology (India), respectively. During his MBA, Gautam spent a summer at Bain & Company, New York. After ~19 years working in the US, Gautam moved to Singapore in June 2018.
