Piet Grillet is Group Head, Regional Counsel for Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA) and serves as a member of the APMEA Senior Management Team and Secretary to the AP and MEA Advisory Boards of Directors.
Before that, between 2005 and 2013, he headed the Law Department and had oversight over legal affairs for the Europe region. In that capacity he also served as the Secretary for the Europe Advisory Board of Directors and was Chairman of the European Legal & Regulatory Advisory Committee.
Prior to joining MasterCard in 2005, Mr. Grillet worked for 12 years at Unilever, where he served as General Counsel and member of the Board of Directors of Unilever Belgium from 1999 and as Legal Counsel from 1993. During the last three years with Unilever, Mr. Grillet combined his General Counsel responsibilities with overseeing public relations and public affairs, and in that capacity gained great experience in crisis management.
Mr. Grillet's experience includes managing acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, corporate transactions and restructures, and employment, anti-trust, privacy and compliance matters.
Prior to joining Unilever, from 1991 to 1993, Mr. Grillet worked in the fashion industry for United Factories Corporation where he set up the legal department. Between 1987 and 1991, he worked as an attorney-at-Law as a member of the bar of Brussels in the Law Firm Th. Delahaye & Partners.
Mr. Grillet has a Masters of Law degree from the University of Leuven, Belgium.
