Mobile money transfer service to waive charges in Nepal

Singapore, 13 May 2015HomeSend will be waiving all charges for receiving money sent to Nepal from today until 13 June 2015. HomeSend, a joint venture, created by MasterCard, eServGlobal and BICS, bridges the gap between finance and telecommunication service providers, enabling business and consumers to send and receive money across borders, to and from mobile money accounts, payment cards, bank accounts or cash outlets – regardless of their location.

Five HomeSend partners, MHITS, Ooreedo, Xendpay, Brastel and Skrill will be participating in the initiative, charging minimum fees to senders while HomeSend will waive all charges to recipients.

Following the devastating earthquake in Nepal in April, MasterCard committed US$230,000 to the World Food Programme and Mercy Corps to assist with the support and resources that will be needed for recovery in the days and months ahead. In addition, MasterCard will double-match employee donations to American Red Cross, Mercy Corps, Save the Children and World Food Programme.

MasterCard, with its issuing partners, has also instituted an interchange waiver for any transaction/donation made with a consumer MasterCard issued in the Asia Pacific, U.S. or Canada regions through June 28, 2015 for the following organizations:

In addition to waiving interchange fees, MasterCard will donate revenues generated by charitable contributions made to these organizations through June 28, 2015.
