Funding the next generation of female entrepreneurs in Indonesia through INSPERA initiative

Singapore, 2 October 2017 – Mastercard has pledged a US$50,000 donation to leading Indonesian telecommunication and information service provider, Indosat Ooredoo, in support of INSPERA (Inspirasi Perempuan Indonesia or Inspiration for Indonesian Women), an initiative focused on empowering Indonesia’s rural ‘womenpreneurs’. The donation reinforces Indosat Ooredoo and Mastercard’s shared commitment to giving back to local communities as well as empowering women and providing opportunities for their advancement.

The donation will be used to equip rural women in Indonesia with the training, capital and confidence to start their own businesses. The donation was presented by Ari Sarker, Co-President, Asia Pacific, Mastercard, to Alexander Rusli of Indosat Ooredoo, at the 2017 Mastercard Innovation Forum in Singapore.

Launched in 2012, Indosat Ooredoo’s INSPERA initiative is focused on offering functional training through the use of mobile technology while providing guidance and working capital, teaching Indonesia’s rural ‘womenpreneurs’ independence and resourcefulness. This is part of Indosat Ooredoo’s commitment to further increase the number of women connected to mobile internet in Indonesia from 40 percent to 43 percent by 2020.

As part of Women Empowerment, one of Indosat Ooredoo’s CSR pillars, one of INSPERA’s strategies is conducting a series of professional training master classes, as well as talk shows with leading female founders and government officials, as an in-depth sharing session covering current issues related to the Indonesian digital era, discussing technological solutions and the evolving role of female Indonesians and micro-entrepreneurs. All the master classes taught participants to explore opportunities offered by technology and the digital world. This initiative, helps women improve their quality of life, reach their dreams and ensures that they are not left behind in Indonesia’s ambitious goals of being a leading digital nation.

Mastercard and Indosat Ooredoo have a history of engagement and partnership, most recently having worked together to enable Palang Merah Indonesia and the American Red Cross beneficiaries to securely receive funds digitally via their mobile phones through Mastercard Send and Indosat Ooredoo’s Dompetku (now PayPro) mobile money platform. In 2014, HomeSend, a joint venture between Mastercard, eServGlobal and BICS signed an agreement with Indosat to make remittance services available to the company’s 60 million subscribers in Indonesia, enabling them to safely send and receive funds across the country’s largest mobile money network.
