Mastercard® to become Top Partner Sponsor of J.League from 2017 season

Tokyo, 1 February 2017 – Mastercard today announced that it will sponsor the Japan Professional Football League (J.League) as the top partner for the upcoming 2017 season, which begins on February 25. The new partnership builds upon Mastercard’s long history of supporting international sporting leagues to bring to life its commitment of connecting cardholders to their greatest passions.

Sports is one of the nine consumer passion areas that guide the Mastercard sponsorship portfolio. In addition to the J.League, Mastercard is also a strategic partner with other major sporting leagues such as the UEFA Champion League, PGA TOUR, The Open Championship, Major League Baseball, the Australian Open and the Hopman Cup. Mastercard has previously sponsored the 2015 Rugby World Cup, FIFA World Cup, and Copa América in South America.

Meiji Yasuda J.League Mastercard Priceless Japan Monthly MVP Award

The “Meiji Yasuda J.League Mastercard Priceless Japan Monthly MVP” Award is a new initiative this coming season to award the most valuable players of the Meiji Yasuda J1 and Meiji Yasuda J2 league games every month.

The award ceremonies will be held at stadiums home to the winners’ clubs, on home game days, shortly before kick-off. This initiative by Mastercard and J.League hopes to thrill J.League fans, and fans can look forward to taking up the presenting role the MVP award to their beloved players.
