Hong Kong’s best developers and entrepreneurs vie for a chance at the US$100,000 Grand Prize
The second of 10 hackathons in the year-long series, the Hong Kong installment will ask developers to create the best commerce experience but also with a special focus on women in technology. Gender diversity in the composition of the teams will create bonus points during the judging process. The event will challenge the best and brightest of Hong Kong’s developers and entrepreneurs to create the next big thing and have a chance at competing against master coders from across the globe in the Grand Finale Masters of Code Hackathon in Silicon Valley in December.
Sponsored and hosted by MasterCard and organized by AngelHack, Masters of Code has one goal: to bring together the world’s top developers, designers and entrepreneurs to take on the MasterCard APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) to build the future of commerce. Using these APIs, developers will have access to unsurpassed assets, data insights, services and products from MasterCard that are focused on powering commerce on a global scale.
The participating teams will compete to create innovative prototypes that demonstrate artful coding and design skills while also articulating clear business use cases – all focused on driving the next generation of commerce applications.
The Hong Kong event will feature an esteemed panel of judges who will choose the winning team based on their innovation’s impact, design, creativity, simplicity and best usage of MasterCard’s APIs.
“Hong Kong is ideal as the second market for us to launch the global hackathon series. The city is known for being one of the most innovative places in the world and a nurturing ground for technology start-ups with a supportive government, hence has an exciting pool of new ideas to offer,” said Anna Yip, head of Hong Kong and Macau, MasterCard.
The event also aligns with MasterCard’s focus on innovation. “As a payment technology company, we see an obligation for us to innovate to help build new businesses, enhance consumer experiences and enable participation in the global economy, on top of delivering value in this rapidly changing world to our customers, partners and consumers,” she explained.
The winning team from each region will be flown to Silicon Valley to compete in the Grand Finale Masters of Code hackathon. Each member of the regional runner-up teams will receive a US$500 MasterCard gift card. The MasterCard Masters of Code Champion will be crowned in Silicon Valley will receive US$100,000 to develop their innovation, in addition to the following prizes:
