Beyond the Transaction: Every Transaction Has a Story

Riding the Cashless Wave

Mostafa Al Hussaini, Owner and Founder of Dukite Surf Shop and Kite School

I’ve always been drawn to water. After working as a dentist for several years, I decided that I wanted to pursue my true passion full-time and share my enthusiasm for water sports with others.

IMG_7140I established Dukite in 2005 as one of the first businesses in the UAE to offer kite surfing and stand-up paddle boarding courses. I started Dukite in a warehouse, but over the years the business has grown, and we recently opened a store in Dubai’s Umm Suqeim Fishing Harbor, where we sell a wide range of water sports gear.

Because of the growing popularity of water sports in Dubai, I am always looking for a way to keep our competitive edge and differentiate us from the competition. We started accepting electronic payments in December 2013, and we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our customers.

Customers can now use cards to pay for their classes at the beach, so there is no need for them to carry cash – or have to rescue wet notes from their pockets after a session! Electronic payments also mean that our instructors don’t have to take cash back to the shop after lessons, and they worry less about having the right amount of change.

I definitely recommend that small businesses start accepting electronic payments. It greatly simplified the way we do business, and the overwhelming positive response that we’ve received from customers proves that cashless payments are the way forward, no matter where you are.
