Sub-Saharan Africa’s Consumers demand more innovative ways to pay – MasterCard Study

A MasterCard shopping and retail social listening study shows that Sub-Saharan African consumers see the value of new payment solutions and are demanding more innovative ways to pay.

This first of its kind study undertaken by MasterCard with PRIME Research across South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya was revealed by MasterCard at Retail Congress Africa in Cape Town on 3 November 2015.

A substantial 86 percent of the posts reviewed by the study concerned innovative payments, and the majority of those (84 percent) focused on digital wallets including MasterPass, Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Analysis identified trends in the areas of Acceptance and Declines, Safety and Security, Costs and Fees, Rewards and Benefits, Customer Service, and Convenience.
