Premium card programme available for the first time in the country
Harare, Zimbabwe – 13 April 2015 – Steward Bank has launched the first MasterCard World Rewards Credit and Debit cards, giving cosmopolitan customers access to unique privileges and rewards not seen before in Zimbabwe. This affirms Steward Bank’s position as a leading innovator in the country’s growing financial services sector.
The premium card programme was launched at an exclusive golf day at the Royal Harare Golf Club attended by over 200 of Harare’s affluent consumers.
“Nielsen recently noted that the Zimbabwean economy is fast recuperating after the economic contraction of the past decade, and that the number of affluent citizens is increasing. Accommodating the needs of current and future clients drives Steward Bank’s decision to invite our premium customers to enjoy the benefits of World Rewards MasterCard payment cards,” said Lance Mambondiani, acting CEO at Steward Bank.
“The MasterCard World Rewards Credit and Debit cards give our customers the flexibility to explore the places and pursuits that mean the most to them, in keeping with their fast-paced, international lifestyles,” he says.
World Rewards gives MasterCard World cardholders access to a range of lifestyle privileges including exclusive offers on flights, accommodation, car hire, dining, retail, culture, sports and entertainment worldwide, as well as access to once-in-a-lifetime experiences through the MasterCard Priceless Cities and Priceless Africa programmes.
Cardholders have 24/7 access to dedicated service agents that can assist them in 72 languages, emergency card replacement, and a virtual payment concierge for card-not-present transactions. Zimbabwe’s international travellers can access more than 500 exclusive airport lounges and can earn loyalty points each time they use their MasterCar World card in Zimbabwe and abroad. These points can be redeemed for flights, hotels and car rentals at the location of their choice.
“World Rewards MasterCard Debit and Credit cards are accepted at millions of merchants in more than 210 countries, which means that business and leisure travellers can access their funds almost anywhere, with as much ease as at home,” says Charlton Goredema, Vice President and Area Business Head, MasterCard Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands. “Importantly, every local and international transaction is protected by MasterCard SecureCode and EMVChip and PIN technologies that provide additional layers of security every time they use it for online purchases or swipe their card.”
“The World Rewards Credit and Debit cards are premium banking products, which means that Steward Bank now offers a range of accounts and services to its clients whatever their financial status, whether they are young people starting out, or professionals at the pinnacle of their careers,” says Goredema.
MasterCard licensed Steward Bank in 2013. Since then, the bank has launched Companion Debit Cards to EcoCash customers, and has partnered with HomeSend, allowing 1.5 million Steward Bank customers to receive funds from abroad safely and conveniently directly into their bank accounts. MasterCard World Rewards Credit and Debit Cards are available to Steward Bank customers by invitation only.
