This week, Legal Momentum honored MasterCard Chief Franchise Integrity Officer Eileen Simon with its Aiming High Award for her career accomplishments and leadership. Aiming High honorees represent the most successful and influential women in the business community and serve as role models for other women and girls.
A champion for diversity and inclusion, Simon serves on MasterCard’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Council. Since 2010, she has also served as the executive sponsor of the company’s Women’s Leadership Network (WLN), a global business resource group focused on advancement and entrepreneurship among women within the organization.
In accepting the award, Simon discussed the importance of diversity in the workplace, the evolution of MasterCard to a diverse company it is today, and shared advice for success.
“There are several ingredients to success: first and foremost, the ability to work well with others is important to success. In addition, good communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial. A willingness to take risks, finding both mentors and sponsors to guide you, and giving back to the community are also part of the equation. And finally, don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself if the situation calls for it – take your work seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously.”
For Simon, her 16 years at MasterCard have helped her grow and also give back, contributing to the careers of other employees in the organization, and to the community in which she lives.
“The best thing about MasterCard is the people. I am so fortunate to be a part of such a fantastic organization that inspire me to be better, every day.”
