Over 20,000 additional online businesses supported by Worldpay, accept the e-wallet
MasterCard today confirmed MBNA as the UK’s first card issuer to offer a MasterPass powered digital wallet to its customers.
The MBNA Wallet, powered by MasterPass, has been launched initially as a pilot to MBNA employees with a full roll out to cardholders expected in 2015. When the trial is complete and available to customers, those who use the e-wallet will be able to buy goods, or pay for services, at a diverse range of online sites both in the UK and overseas.
In November, Worldpay enabled over 20,000 small and medium sized online businesses to accept transactions via MasterPass. This compliments 6000 existing sites in the UK which take payments via MasterPass, including large retailers such as Currys and PC World.
Scott Abrahams, head of acceptance and emerging payments at MasterCard UK & Ireland commented: “Working with MBNA and Worldpay has helped MasterPass reach several milestones in the UK. MBNA customers will have the convenience and security of using the MasterPass service at over 30,000 online businesses in the UK and 60,000 across the world. Together we are offering a real alternative to consumers when paying online, removing the need to always input card details and the improved peace of mind that comes with this.”
