Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Mastercard has constantly been on a mission to help safeguard the Hong Kong people in this challenging time. Taking part in an important health initiative, Mastercard today announced its partnership with Hang Lung Properties, a leading property developer headquartered in Hong Kong, and Germ Tech, authorized long-lasting germicidal coating specialist and total solution advisor of Germagic, to give patients peace of mind when visiting their doctors in sanitized clinics and healthcare centers while enjoying a hassle-free and seamless cashless payment experience.

Patients who wish to attend to their health needs often worry about exposing themselves to COVID-19 in public areas on their way to clinics and healthcare centers that often only accept cash – currently considered a possible channel of virus transmission, sending patients to ATMs when they don’t have sufficient money at hand. Handling cash also poses a health risk for nurses, who often transact with patients.

To alleviate these concerns, the partnership not only strives to encourage the clinics and healthcare centers at Hang Lung’s Medical Hubs in Hang Lung Centre in Causeway Bay, Grand Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, and Grand Plaza in Mongkok to accept contactless card payments via mobile phones using the Mastercard Tap on Phone solution, but also promotes health and safety with Germ Tech’s free Germagic sanitizing services in these Medical Hubs – protecting patients who visit Hang Lung’s healthcare tenants.

“This continued partnership with Mastercard is part of our year-long ‘ONLife’ campaign, covering wellness, dining, learning and transportation in an attempt to address various challenges encountered by Hong Kong people in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. In view of the rising awareness on health and safety, we now extend our coverage to the wellness sector, with our belief that digital payment methods would be highly beneficial for both patients and our healthcare tenants residing at our Medical Hubs, not only by providing convenient, cashless options but also by avoiding the further spread of the virus. We highly encourage our tenants to adopt payment solutions offered by renowned international brands such as Mastercard in their clinics,” said Bella Chhoa, Director – Leasing & Management of Hang Lung Properties.

“Considering the heightened concerns over health and safety in public areas among people in Hong Kong, we are glad to be working with Germ Tech in sanitizing the public areas of our Medical Hubs. First and foremost, it is important to sanitize the Grand Plaza shopping mall, which is a popular gourmet dining venue in town, thus offering an extra layer of protection to ensure the safety of our mall-goers,” Bella added.

“Items often touched by hands, including elevator buttons, door handles and those found in lobbies and corridors, have the highest risk of spreading viruses such as COVID-19. Thus, these are the primary areas and things to be sanitized by Germ Tech under our partnership with Mastercard and Hang Lung Properties. We look forward to further promoting cleanliness while facing the challenges brought about by the

COVID-19 pandemic,” said Prof. King Lun Yeung, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Division of Environment & Sustainability, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Prof. Yeung led the team who developed Germagic Thyme, which delivers a smart coating that can inactivate up to 99.9 percent of highly infectious viruses and is more resistant to coronaviruses such as the one responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. This disinfection coating has an effective 90-day period of preventing microbial adhesion, keeping surfaces clean from contaminants.

“Mastercard is truly committed to supporting the Hong Kong people in combating the further spread of COVID-19. By partnering with leading property developer in Hong Kong, Hang Lung Properties, and local innovative sanitization specialist, Germ Tech, Mastercard gladly takes the opportunity to take care of the needs of patients and those in the medical industry through Tap on Phone, which enables clinics and healthcare centers to accept contactless card payment via mobile phones. Mastercard cardholders not only can enjoy a hassle-free, safe and convenient payment experience, but can also minimize the risk of virus exposure from cash transactions,” said Helena Chen, Managing Director, Hong Kong and Macau, Mastercard.

Lung’s healthcare tenants at the Medical Hubs in Hang Lung Centre in Causeway Bay, Grand Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui and Grand Plaza in Mongkok who wish to provide a safer and more convenient way to transact with their patients are highly recommended to register for Mastercard Tap on Phone. As an incentive, Hang Lung tenants enrolling for the Mastercard card acceptance service will receive a free “PROSHIELD Disinfectant Deodorizer” and can also exclusively enjoy a discount of up to 20 percent when registering for sanitizing services by Germ Tech using Mastercard cards.
