Mastercard Ranks at Fortune’s 2020 Change the World List

Mastercard is once again named in Fortune magazine’s Change the World list this year, which ranks companies that use the creative tools of business to help the planet and tackle society's unmet needs. Now on its sixth year, Fortune has placed Mastercard in the 14th spot in its 2020 ranking – its fourth inclusion, continuing the company’s string of appearances in the list’s top 15. Fortune has cited Mastercard’s major contribution in accelerating the digital economy as well as the company’s goal of financial inclusion for 1 billion people by 2025 as a few of this year’s highlights.

Fortune’s feature article emphasized that Mastercard has played a significant role in boosting tech- enabled trends such as e-commerce and digital payment amid the coronavirus pandemic. “Mastercard has been a huge stakeholder in this ongoing transformation – and has played a major role in making sure its benefits reach people in the developing world,” according to Fortune. The magazine also featured programs such as the Mastercard Farmer Network, a digital marketplace that provides access to buyers and pricing transparency for nearly 500,000 small farmers across Africa and India, as well as Kupaa, a program launched in Uganda to help lower-income people overcome financial obstacles to education.
