Bunita Sawhney
Chief Consumer Product Officer

 

Bunita Sawhney is the chief consumer product officer at Mastercard and a member of the company’s management committee. She oversees all consumer and issuer product offerings, including the company’s credit, debit and prepaid products as well as ESG product innovations. In this key leadership role, she is responsible for enabling more secure and innovative ways for consumers to make everyday purchases.

Prior to this role, Bunita was Mastercard’s executive vice president of U.S. Financial Institutions, where she worked alongside customers to deliver products and services that meet people’s everyday needs, with security and peace of mind at the core. She was responsible for deepening and expanding Mastercard’s relationships with the largest financial institutions, including Bank of America, Capital One, Wells Fargo Bank and U.S. Bank as well as the community institutions and credit unions nationwide. She also focused on growing the consumer, small business and commercial business through strong partnerships, innovation and thought leadership.

Bunita previously led the Global Debit & ATM Products business at Mastercard, where she was responsible for global product line strategy, portfolio optimization, product development and the roadmap for the Debit Mastercard, Maestro and ATM offering.

In 2016, Bunita joined Mastercard, bringing an array of experience from her various management positions at HSBC, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank and Wells Fargo Bank. She most recently spent nearly 12 years at HSBC where she was the head of Customer Value Management, a broad function that included the strategy and execution across Consumer Propositions, Products, Marketing, CRM and Analytics.

Bunita is the global executive sponsor of Mastercard’s Women's Leadership network. She is also a member of the Women in Payments Advisory Board as well as a mentor for the 30% Club.

Bunita holds a master’s degree in strategic communications from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
