Senior Vice President, Innovation Management and Startup Engagement
Deborah Barta is the Senior Vice President of Innovation Management and Startup Engagement at Mastercard. Ms. Barta is responsible for the programs and processes that help generate unique, innovative ideas, both internally and in collaboration with our key external partners. Additionally, she also leads Mastercard’s engagement with the global startup community through Start Path Global, the company’s effort to support innovative, late-stage startups around the world.
In her role, Ms. Barta leads the design and execution of innovation programs that brings new payment and commerce ideas to life. She leads a team that works alongside employees, banks and merchant partners, startups and the fintech community to identify and experiment with future technologies through an agile approach to research, development, incubation and pilot.
Prior to this role, she led the development and commercialization of Simplify, which is the first small-business commerce platform to be incubated as a virtual startup within Mastercard Labs and subsequently transitioned into the organization as a globally-scaled product. Before joining MasterCard, she successfully led client engagements as a strategic business consultant for Deloitte Consulting, IBM Global Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting and Arthur Andersen across a variety of industries.
In 2014, Ms. Barta was recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal with one of the publication’s first Annual Innovation Awards.
Ms. Barta holds an M.B.A. from Webster University, a B.S.B.A. in Finance and Music from Washington University in St. Louis and a Professional Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Stanford University.
