Senior Vice President, Innovation Management and Startup Engagement
Deborah Barta is the Senior Vice President of Innovation and Startup Engagement at Mastercard. Ms. Barta leads Mastercard’s engagement with the global startup community through Start Path, the company’s award-winning program that sources the world’s leading startups as collaborators to build the future of commerce together. She also drives global innovation initiatives to experiment with new technologies, accelerate new concepts to market, and deliver transformative solutions to fuel material growth.
In Mastercard Labs, Ms. Barta leads global research and development teams that work alongside key external partners, startups and the fintech community to identify key pain points and expedite new solutions to market. She experiments with cutting-edge technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, to create breakthrough solutions that are designed for scale through an agile approach to research, development, incubation and pilot.
Before joining Mastercard, she successfully led client engagements as a strategic business consultant for Deloitte Consulting, IBM Global Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting and Arthur Andersen across a variety of industries.
In 2014, Ms. Barta was recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal with one of the publication’s first Annual Innovation Awards.
Ms. Barta holds an M.B.A. from Webster University, a B.S.B.A. in Finance and Music from Washington University in St. Louis and a Professional Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Stanford University. She also serves on the board on the NY Tech Alliance, a non-profit organization that supports the New York tech community and runs the NY Tech Meetup, the largest meetup group in the world with over 60,000 individual and institutional members.
