Pilar Aurrecoechea is general manager of Iberia, which is comprised of Spain and Portugal. In this role, she is responsible for developing and executing MasterCard strategy in the indicated markets.
Prior to joining MasterCard in 2011, Ms. Aurrecoechea was senior vice president of Visa Europe and was the managing director of Visa Consulting Advisory Services. While at Visa, she built the Consulting practice in Europe to support banks and manage a team distributed in the following European countries: UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Turkey and Poland.
Before joining Visa Europe, Ms. Aurrecoechea spent 8 years as card director at Caja Madrid, the second largest savings bank in Spain, now part of Bankia. In this role, she was responsible for the issuing and acquiring (POS and ATM) business, as well as the different channels when they were first introduced (internet and phone banking). During this period, Ms. Aurrecoechea was board member of ServiRed/Sermepa and Iberia Cards.
Ms. Aurrecoechea started her card experience career at American Express in Spain where she worked for 10 years and was responsible for the launch of Membership Rewards in Spain in 1994 (the first card loyalty program in the market) and the launch of Amex Platinum in 1996.
Ms. Aurrecoechea holds a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University (SDSU).
