Johannesburg, 8 September 2015 – NetFlorist, South Africa’s largest online floral and gifting service, has partnered with MasterCard to offer customers a more seamless, secure online shopping checkout process with MasterPass, a digital wallet service.
With an average of between 1,500 and 2,000 daily transactions, most of NetFlorist’s sales are made through its website. Having integrated MasterPass as an online checkout option, NetFlorist is now able to offer a convenient online shopping experience for debit card customers, who were unable to shop on the site previously.
“Eighty-five percent of our business is via the NetFlorist website,” says Ryan Bacher, managing director of NetFlorist. “MasterPass appeals as a payment option as it is a versatile solution – customers banking with any bank can download and use it, whether they have a debit card or a credit card.”
MasterPass allows consumers to store all their MasterCard or other branded credit or debit card information securely in one place. Customers can now make secure online payments on NetFlorist for gifts including flower arrangements, sweet treats, hampers and other gifting items without the repeated hassle of entering these details each time.
Mark Elliott, division president of MasterCard in South Africa, says there are a number of benefits for e-tailers like NetFlorist to offer MasterPass as an online checkout payment solution.
“MasterPass makes an online shopping experience more convenient, more accessible and much safer. It has multiple security layers that ensure customers’ details are stored in a safe place, and that purchases are made by no one other than the online shopper,” he says.
To mark the launch of MasterPass, NetFlorist has a dedicated R99 Store on its website offering customers a wide selection of gifts at the specified rate if payment is made using MasterPass. Gifts include personalised hampers, soft toys, flowers, fruit bowls, sweet treats, bath goodies, and even items from Le Creuset.
Online shoppers need to download and install the MasterPass app on their mobile device, which is free for download from the iOS, Android, Windows or BlackBerry app stores. Standard Bank is the first local bank to offer a digital wallet powered by MasterPass, but the service can be used by consumers who bank with any South African bank.
Steps to using MasterPass at checkout
When shopping online, click the “Buy with MasterPass” button to select this payment method on checkout. The first time you use MasterPass on your desktop, laptop or mobile device, select the digital wallet you want to use. MasterPass will remember your selection on that device.
MasterPass generates a QR code that displays on your screen. If you access a mobi-site or mobile app, MasterPass will automatically take you to step four.
Open the MasterPass app on your mobile device and scan the QR code.
Choose the pre-loaded debit or credit card you want to use for payment from your wallet.
Depending on your bank, enter your Card PIN or 3DSecureCode and your security code (CVC or CVV code) when prompted to authorise payment.
When the transaction is successfully processed, you and the merchant receive payment confirmation.
